An Accolade to Zombie Pets

Past players, fans and friends,

A few years ago we made the very difficult decision to retire the Zombie Pets game. The technology the game was built with was coming to an end and the gameplay was not sustainable.

We did not take the decision lightly. Just as we had invested our hearts and time into building this rich world of quirky characters and items, we found that our players had done the same. In the final days of Zombie Pets, it had just over 1 million registered players and over 5000 unique items; a virtual universe of communal, undead creativity.

We’ve always wondered, could we have created a Zombie Pets 2? Could we have spun out a small mobile based Zombie Pets phone app in the Apple and Google stores? Nothing really made sense… until now.

Recently there has been a shift in the way computers operate. It’s a trend that was born from the internet itself; a way to connect people without the issues that a centralized government, company or institution often receive. The internet is not owned or controlled, it is truly decentralized. Therefore, the most successful and longest surviving internet projects have come to be open sourced and, when possible, decentralized.

It was only natural that a new system would arrive that would enable trans-actionable value transfer, currency, true digital money. A system we could trust that isn’t controlled by central banks.

Just as this new type of digital currency, protected from manipulation and corruption by cryptography, has started to blossom, a new type of ownership has followed in its steps, giving people a way to have true digital ownership over assets. In our case, their game assets.

While Zombie Pets (like many games) offered ways to buy , trade and sell your virtual items, the sense of ownership was ultimately an illusion. As our past players know, when the plug gets pulled and the virtual universe closes, those items you thought you owned, are in fact still trapped in the system.

It is time to truly free the game items from their creators, and let them live independently, in the player’s possession.

Enter Ethereum.

Ethereum is a global computer network that is decentralized. It stores game items and digital currency in such a way that we, the game creators, can’t manipulate or destroy them. If the game offers a rare item with only 10 copies, you, the player, can check the code, share it and guarantee this is true. This is what we call provably fair.

If a player acquires an item to their game wallet, the transaction record of that transaction or game action can be scrutinized in a globally viewable ledger. This is true transparency. This is true ownership.

We are excited to build on this new platform and breathe new life into the old Zombie Pets assets. Ethereum, while offering many benefits, does come with certain rules, restrictions and general ways to interact with it. We are evolving with this new technology, and so, we are are not just creating the same game all over again.

Instead, we are building a collectible card game on the Ethereum network that will feature the Zombie Pets characters and items we all loved. This new card game is called Cryptoz.

What is Cryptoz?

Cryptoz is an Ethereum blockchain-based collectible zombie card (CCG) game.

With 1000s of unique, beautifully designed zombie assets, Cryptoz is a collectible card game (CCG) based on smart contracts running on the Ethereum blockchain.

Buy, trade, collect and sell digital cryptocurrency Zombies, Plants & Idols with friends from around the globe.

Every Cryptoz collector card is an ERC-721 crypto token which belongs 100% to the player and cannot be replicated or destroyed.

Each Cryptoz collector card will be the only one of its kind in the world.

What is a blockchain?

By allowing digital information to be distributed but not copied, blockchain technology created the backbone of a new type of internet. Originally devised for the digital currency, Bitcoin, the tech community is now finding other potential uses for the technology.
